Open Positions for 2008 Camp Sessions

Salaries include room and board for the 6-1/2 week season and 8 days of pre-camp training from June 27th– August 19th. Contact Camp Fire USA Samish Council at 360-733-5710 for information and application, or download form at bottom of page.

Activities Counselor: (1) Responsibilities include running games, challenge activities, participating in the planning, implementing and supervising of all-camp program activities, and other activities as assigned.

Waterfront Director: (1) Primary supervision of all waterfront activities.  Other responsibilities include participating in planning, implementation, and supervision of camp program activities.  MUST hold current lifeguard training, CPR, and First Aid certifications.  Previous open water and small craft experience preferred. 

Cabin Counselor: (10-12) Responsible for 22-hour supervision of a group of six to ten campers in all phases of the camp program. Includes facilitating daily schedule and supervising all activities including overnight campouts.

Rover: (3) Responsibilities include covering four to six cabin groups daily while cabin counselors take their scheduled 2-hour break.  Other duties include helping specialists run programs, participating in all-camp events and other duties as assigned. 

Small Craft Instructor: (1) Responsible for teaching canoeing and rowing skills, some maintenance of oars, paddles, rowboats and canoes.  ACA Small Boat Certification preferred, (other forms of certification  - college course credit, Coast Guard small boats or documentation of small boat courses taught may be acceptable).  Other duties include helping with all-camp activities and other duties as assigned.

Lifeguard: (1-2) Responsibilities include providing waterfront sessions in swimming, funyaking, rowing, and canoeing.  Other duties include planning and participating in all-camp events, overnights, and other duties as assigned.  MUST hold current lifeguard certification.  Open water and small craft certification or experience is preferred. 

Creative Arts Counselor: (1) Responsibilities include providing age-appropriate projects for campers age six to sixteen.  Other responsibilities include participating in all-camp activities, overnights, and themes. 

Rock Climbing Instructor: (1) Responsibilities include providing age-appropriate climbing instruction on the Camp Kirby climbing tower.  Must have excellent safety and belaying skills. Assist with

all-camp events, overnights, and themes required. 

Archery Instructor: (1) Responsibilities include teaching archery, helping with all-camp events, overnights, and themes. 

 

Outdoor Living Skills Instructor: (1) Responsiblitites include supervising and training campers age six to sixteen in the craft of the outdoors, providing age-appropriate games and nature awareness activities and working with other staff members to provide natural awareness activities for their cabin groups. Other responsibilities include participating in all-camp events and themes.  This position also is responsible for gathering together all the food and equipment needed for all camper overnights.  Previous camping/outdoor experience and food handlers permit required.  OLS certification and/or previous knowledge of outdoor survival skills is helpful. 

Counselor-In-Training Director: (1) Responsible for supervision and training of up to ten 11th and 12th graders learning to be camp staff.  Must have proven record working with high school-aged people in a training environment, strong outdoor living skills, and knowledge of planning and implementing curriculum. 

Special Needs Coordinator: (1) Responsible for pre-screening all camper health forms to gather information on campers.  Then communicate that information to counselors to help them best serve their campers.  Must have experience with ADD, ADHD, Autism, and Down syndrome youth.  Must also have excellent self-motivation and communication skills. 

Head Cook: (1) Responsibilities include food ordering, meal preparation, kitchen maintenance, inventory and supervision of kitchen staff.  This individual needs to be willing to work June 27th to August 19th.  MUST have a current Food Handler's Permit.

Assistant Cook: (1) Responsible for assisting the cook with food preparation, kitchen maintenance and other duties as assigned.  MUST have a current Food Handler's Permit.

Kitchen Aide: (2) Responsible for assisting the cook with food preparation, dishwashing, kitchen maintenance. Other duties include but are not limited to assisting OLS staff with campouts.  MUST have a current Food Handler's Permit.

 

ALL STAFF MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE CURRENT FIRST AID AND CPR TRAINING.
